 Last October, certain city elected officials received an anonymous letter alleging certain complaints about the police department. In December, Officer Brandon Lange submitted a written complaint about the police department which was very similar to the anonymous letter received two months prior.



 The City hired the law firm of Jackson Lewis to conduct a thorough independent investigation of the complaints set forth in both the October and December letters.

 Attorneys for the Jackson Lewis law firm interviewed several police officers with the department and other city officials.

 The Board of Aldermen held a closed session to hear from the attorneys about their findings and ask questions.

 Following a thorough investigation, the attorneys of the Jackson Lewis law firm found no violations of law or policy with respect to the complaints set forth in the October and December letters.

 However, there appears to be a breakdown of internal communications within the Police Department at times and the Police Department would benefit if it operated as more of a cohesive unit. Therefore, the Board of Aldermen will be mandating EEO Training for all employees; Performance Management Training for the PD command staff; and some type of professionally-led team-building exercises for the members of the police department.

In addition, the Board will ensure that EEO Training is attended by all employees on a routine basis.
