Mayor’s Office

John Gwaltney, Mayor

Greetings my good neighbors.  I hope this has been a good year for each of you so far.  As we enter what I like to call the “season of holidays”.  I am excited about what the next few months promise as far as family gatherings are concerned.  Even though the temperatures will be cooler, we have some events planned that will bring our Edmundson family together.  By the time you receive this, the movie in the park will have already happened and the chili cook-off is scheduled for Saturday the 15th.  Halloween on the 31st is one of my favorite holidays because of the joy I get to see on the disguised faces of the children.

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, this winter is supposed to be warmer than usual but with above average amounts of snow.  It’s kind of eerie as to how accurate their long range weather forecasts are.  We have a large stock pile of salt with a pre-order for more as we need it, at summer time prices.  Advance planning can and does save the city money.  Come what may, our streets will be cleaned of snow and ice this winter. I sure hope that we have a good display of fall colors as I sure enjoy a colorful display of colorful leaves.  Rhoda and I even traveled to Vermont last October to see the leaves but we are staying here this year to watch them change.

As I mentioned earlier, our annual chili cook-off is scheduled for Saturday the 15th from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.  There is still room for more contestants to sign up.  Call(428-7125 x 116) or come to city hall to register and/or get all the details.  I know we have some great chili cooks living here, come on out and show off your skills and have a great time while doing it.  The rest of us should just plan on coming out to taste some great chili, enjoy the music of Kruze Kontrol and the fellowship with our neighbors.

The next meeting of the Edmundson Senior Citizen’s Club will be Tuesday, Oct. 18th.  As usual, the meeting will be held in the city hall, starting at 7:00 PM.  We start with a very informal business meeting where we discuss things like future events and other activities.  I want to stress the “very informal” part as it is interjected with outbursts of laughter.  Following the business part, there is a time of game playing, and finishing off with snacks.  If you are an Edmundson senior, come on out and join in.

I sincerely hope you have a great Halloween and that I see you at the chili cook-off.

Thought to ponder:  Caring for the burdens of others helps us to forget about our own. – Be a good neighbor. ¨

Where did the summer go? October is already here and that means the Chili Cook-off is right around the corner (Saturday, October 15th). Hope to see you all there, last year was a blast and I bet this year will only be better. Since it is October, Halloween will soon approach. Please take extra care in watching out for the children Trick or Treating. Sometimes they are hard to see and tend to dart out into the street without looking. Also, during that time look for the Police cars. The officer’s will be passing out treats to the kids as well as making sure everyone stays safe. Everyone have a safe and Happy Halloween!!!
